Homes built for social rent have almost halved since last year, according to figures from the Homes and Communities Agency.
The number of socially rented homes completed between April and September this year was 3,586 – 48 per cent lower than the 6,923 built in the same period in 2011. Although, starts were up to 373 socially rented homes in the period this year compared to 214 for the same period in 2011.
The number of homes for affordable rent shot up from zero in April to September 2011 to 1,074 in the same period this year.
In total in the first six months of the financial year the agency completed 11,981 homes, 2 per cent lower than in 2011, and started on site with a further 5,243 compared to 2,023 in 2011.
Of the homes completed 6,375 were affordable.
