Equity join campaign to fight Westminster Council’s £350,000 arts and culture cuts

Equity, the actors trade union, has joined the campaign against Westminster Council’s decision to axe its entire £350,000 a year Arts and Culture budget and has urged its members to sign the petition.

Equity say;

“Westminster’s £350,000 cut represents just 0.0004% of the Council’s expenditure but could threaten a number of projects and workplaces in the area including drama, dance and singing workshops for young people, community initiatives at the Soho Theatre and valuable work the English National Ballet has been carrying out with Parkinson’s sufferers.

The council plans to cut funding by £150,000 in 2013/14 and the remaining £200,000 will disappear after the 2014/15 financial year.

 If you live, work or study in Westminster please can sign the petition below, calling on the Council to reject the proposals.
