Actor Michael Sheen and pop-star Will Young are the latest to sign the petition calling on Westminster Council to reject proposals to axe its entire £350,000 a year Arts and Culture budget and join over 700 others who have signed the online petition at http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/artsandculture/.
Earlier this month West End actors Samantha Bond, Alistair McGowan, Nickolas Grace, Adrian Lester and Abigail Thaw signed the petition, along with Peter Polycarpou, Saskia Reeves, Paula Wilcox, Ian McShane and Ralf Little. Others signing the petition include former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Arlene Philips, theatre director Philip Hedley and author and actress Barbara Ewing.
Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, said;
“Opposition to Westminster Council’s plan to axe its entire Arts and Culture budget is growing, with more big names adding their weight to the campaign. This week I have written to the Culture Secretary Maria Miller to ask her to use her influence to stop this madness. We have until 6th March to save the arts in Westminster.”
