Alan Johnson MP, former Home Secretary in the Labour Government, was with local residents, post office workers and Labour Councillors in Lupus Street to join the campaign to keep the Post Office open.
Mr Johnson, who started life as a postman and rose to become leader of the Communications Workers’ Union before entering Parliament in 1997, was present to support the community’s efforts to keep the Lupus Street Post Office open.
In addition Murad Qureshi, Member of the London Assembly, was present to give his support alongside Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group.
The campaign to save Lupus Street Post Office has been spearheaded by Churchill Ward Labour campaigners Murad Gassanly, Jason Thomas Williams and Shamim Talukder, together with the CWU. There are already over 400 signatures on the on-line petition with many more signatures on paper petitions.
