Over 1,000 Westminster households chase 16 one bed flats

There are just 16 one bedroom flats available for letting in Westminster to the 259 tenants subject to the Bedroom Tax who need a one bed flat and a further 769 households on the Council’s Waiting List who need a one bed flat, according to the latest figures from City West Homes.

Meanwhile, Westminster Council tenants subject to the Government’s new Bedroom Tax now owe £44,023 in rent arrears – an increase of 18% since the end of March 2013, according to the latest Council figures.

Arrears are rising because, so far, the Council has only managed to rehouse 31 ‘over-occupying’ tenants on Housing Benefit.
