On line petition calling on Westminster Council to ensure that all its contractors pay the London Living Wage.

Labour Councillors have launched an on-line petition calling on Westminster Council to ensure that all its contractors pay their employees the London Living Wage.

The petition reads:

“We the undersigned petition Westminster City Council to ensure that all Council contractors pay their staff the London Living Wage”

People living, working and studying in Westminster can sign the petition at

The Living Wage is the best means of increasing wages and living standards in Westminster. It is an hourly rate, currently £8.55, calculated by the Greater London Assembly to be the minimum wage needed in order to afford a reasonable standard of living in the capital. The Living Wage is good for businesses, individuals and society; it increases productivity, reduces absenteeism and staff turnover, increases job satisfaction and helps to tackle the root causes of poverty.
