Karen Buck, Westminster North’s MP is urging residents to share their experiences of renting homes from private landlords amid growing fears that many people are unable to get onto the property ladder.
Karen Buck is hoping to gather information on the experiences of people living in private rented accommodation. The 10-question survey covers various problems faced by renters, ranging from hidden estate agent fees to extortionate rents.
Ms Buck believes the inflated London housing market is forcing an increasing number of Westminster residents to rent indefinitely.
She said: “Westminster has one of the highest private rented sectors in the UK. Two out of five Westminster homes are rented privately – twice the national average.
“Meanwhile, as more and more people are priced out of home ownership, the number of families renting their home has doubled over the past 10 years.”
“The response so far has been fantastic, but I want to make sure that with the survey closing at the end of October, everyone who wants to have their say about this very important issue affecting many residents within Westminster will have their chance.”
