Westminster Conservatives pay out nearly £900,000 in senior staff bonuses but claim they have no money to pay the London Living Wage to low paid staff

Over the past three years Westminster Conservatives have paid out nearly £900,000 in senior staff bonuses at the same time as they have been claiming that the Council has no money to ensure that the London Living Wage is paid to low paid staff working for contractors.

In an answer to a question from Labour Councillors, the Council has revealed that in the past three years it has paid £868,532 to senior staff in ‘deferred pay’;

Total deferred pay
2011 £340,865
2012 £263,223
2013 £264,444

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group; said;

“Westminster Conservatives’ priorities are clear – bonuses for the highest paid Council staff, while the low paid do not even get the London Living Wage. This kind of basic unfairness and ‘double standard’ has no place in a Council that is making £27 million of budget cuts this year and a similar amount next year. The Conservative claim that “we are all in this together” obviously does not extend to Westminster Council’s senior staff”.
