Westbourne Green ‘regeneration’ will do little to tackle overcrowding

Councillor David Boothroyd reveals;

“We have been given statistics for overcrowding and for the number of new homes planned within the Westbourne Green Masterplan area:

There are 87 families currently overcrowded living on Westbourne Green and 1 family awaiting a medical priority. Together they need 1 x 1bed, 27 x 2bed, 48 x 3bed, 11 x 4bed, 1 x 5bed.

The upper range for number of new homes is 360, of which 240 would be housing for sale. However the 120 non-market homes include the intermediate housing, and also don’t take account of the social rented homes that will be demolished and have to be re-provided.

If you take all of those out, there would be only 25 additional social rented units. So even if every single one of them went to overcrowded local families, it would only reduce the number of overcrowded families from 87 to 62.”
