Labour Councillors are supporting proposals that the former Pimlico Library in Rampayne Street, SW1 should be used for community uses rather than being sold off for a supermarket.
Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, has supported the following suggestion from a local resident;
I should like to propose an alternative use for this building because another Sainsbury Local will kill off all the other small shops we use frequently ie: every day.
It could be taken over by Westminster Council for the use by local people; It could become a Community Centre allowing people to hire it out for a nominal sum; such as for Parties, Wedding Receptions, Clubs such as Brownies/Cubs. Language Classes, Art Classes, Pilates, Ballet classes; in fact any such thing.
It would also be a good place for Residents Associations to hold their meetings in a neutral space!! In Pimlico there are a number of Artists who would be pleased to have a Gallery Space to show / sell their work.
Wandsworth Council have a community Arts Group that has been part funded by them as a non- commercial organisation, but will be financially dependent on self -funding activities as well as donations. Perhaps you may consider such a scheme?”
