Westminster housing crisis continues as Council reports £3.4 million overspend on housing homeless families

The housing crisis in Westminster has continued as the Council has reported a £3.4 million overspend on housing homeless families in temporary accommodation, according to the latest figures in a report to the February Audit and Performance Committee.

The Council has housed 2,368 homeless families in temporary accommodation in 2014.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Leader of the Labour Group, said:

“This is third year in a row that the Council has reported a multi-million pound overspend on housing homeless families in temporary accommodation. This a sure sign that the Westminster housing crisis is getting worse. The Council needs to build more social housing in order to provide more homes for those in housing need.”
