Recently we have noticed there are more requests from residents about Befriending Services. This is to be expected when one in five older people in England say they have no one to turn to. Also, 45% of homes in Westminster are one person households.
Our older residents will often find their social circle has shrunk because of bereavement and family and friends moving away; also mobility problems prevent them from getting out.
The following organisations offer Befriending services where a volunteer will visit an older person at home.
Age UK will arrange befriending services for people over 50 who are lonely and isolated.
Telephone 0844 225 0320 or 0203 004 5612
Befriending Plus will help with people over 65 and living alone. The resident has to be registered with a GP in Central London.

Mind will assist with befriending services where the individual has mental health issues.
