A new Youth MP for Westminster, Hamza Taozzale, has been elected.
Wesminster Labour Councillor Tim Roca said:
“In view of the severe cuts being made to Youth Services the voice of young people is more important than ever. On behalf of the Labour Group at Westminster Council I want to congratulate Hamza, and all the other candidates who took part in this election. We look forward to working with him and ensuring the Council starts to take the views of young people seriously.”
Despite being called the “Youth MP”, Westminster Council does not actually subscribe to the UK Youth Parliament, and so the Youth MP cannot attend or take part in any UK Youth Parliament activities. By way of comparison, 30 out of 32 London boroughs subscribe.
The outgoing Youth MP Aby Murray has been Co-chairing our Labour Task Group to look at the severe cuts in Youth Funding imposed by the Council and what options there are. It will release its report in the next couple of weeks.
