Boris rejects Labour and residents call to stop the Whiteleys Development

Westminster Labour are disappointed but not surprised that Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson has waved his right to ‘call in’ the plans for redeveloping Whiteleys, meaning that the scheme is now likely to go ahead in damaging vital heritage assets, harming the quality of life of local residents and failing to provide a meaningful amount of affordable housing.

Labour Group Leader Adam Hug, who along with Karen Buck had asked the Mayor to intervene, said:

“This is a dereliction of duty by the outgoing Conservative Mayor who is more concerned with trying to become Prime Minister than doing his job. This shows very clearly why London needs a Labour Mayor, Sadiq Khan, who understands what Londoners want and is willing to take on the developers to get the best deal for local people when Conservative Westminster Council washes its hands of their responsibilities.”
